“Mike Grosshandler, a.k.a. Mike G., a.k.a. “Harvey”, has been making a name for himself in the Albany, NY music scene since 1997. He is currently singer/guitarist for the rock band The Velmas, whose 2006 album “Station” was released on New York City-based City Canyons Records, as well as the guitarist/singer for Above The Flood, a new Capital Region-based hard rock band.”
Joining us from ALBANY, NEW YORK, we had the very talented MIKE GROSSHANDLER plus a very special appearance from Alice, his cute 14-month-old daughter! This is why Mark and I love this show, everything we do on it is spontaneous, unscripted and you never know what is going to happen! Yes, Mike had to babysit his daughter tonight; however he managed to do a fantastic interview while being a good dad at the same time!
I had listened to several interviews that Mike had done on various radio stations and of course with Butterflies’ own KIVA JOHNS ADKINS from INDIEVIEWS ARTIST SPOTLIGHT. Not only did I really enjoy listening to his album BLUE SKIES BLACK in full but I enjoyed listening to Mike and knew he would be a great guest for our TWITTER TUESDAY LIVE SHOW!
Although BLUE SKIES BLACK is Mike’s solo project, he is also a lead singer with THE VELMAS and is also lead guitarist with ABOVE THE FLOOD. Mike talked about his experience with both bands and of course the making of his album! We also dwelled on the fact of how being an independent radio station we are more open to play more good music as opposed to mainstream radio that has to play the same songs over and over!
Mike also talked about his many influences, among them THE BEATLES, in particular the legendary GEORGE HARRISON, NIRVANA, ALICE IN CHAINS and TYPE O NEGATIVE which surprised Mark! Mike told us he wants to be one of those legendary guys one day and leave his mark on the world as those before him have done! Mike, there is no reason why that can’t happen and if it does, Mark and I will be proud to say that we were part of your rise to fame!
We had a good live audience tuned in to hear and support MIKE GROSSHANDLER today and they gave some good feedback on his music! Mike was amazing, answering the questions we threw at him, talking about his music, thinking about what he would take on a deserted island and all this while tweeting, checking friends on Facebook and taking his daughter for a walk in her stroller! Amazing talent!
During the show we featured three of his songs from his first solo album BLUE SKIES BLACK, just a taste of what you can expect to hear from the rest of the album!

During the show we featured three songs from Mike that are on the BLUE SKIES BLACK album:
DROPS – This song starts off as it ends, soft and sweet, but contained in the middle are some scathing words for someone who did him wrong!
BLUES SKIES BLACK – The title track and first single from the album of the same name, this starts off with some powerful guitars and builds to an amazing peak of energy!
STATUS QUO – Featuring guest vocals by PHIL TAYLOR of the band FUTURE LEADERS OF THE WORLD, this song harkens back to the 90s with its grunge-influenced sound and a crazy guitar solo by Mike!
Check out the video for BLUE SKIES BLACK, spread it around and let’s make it go viral!!!!

Thank you, Mike, for taking the time out of your very busy schedule to join Mark and me on the show today. It was a pleasure meeting you (and Alice). You were an awesome guest and we would love you to come back on our show again sometime in the future! It’s having artists like you on the show that makes all the hard work we put into a show worthwhile! Thank you!
